Thanks to Samsung’s folding-screen technology, the flip phone is making a comeback into the mainstream. It may leave you wondering why you would buy a normal phone at the same price now since it is cheaper, smoother, water-resistant, and more durable than last year’s model.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the successor to the original Z Flip (there was no version two) and costs £949 ($999/A$1,499), which is £350 less than its predecessor and on pace with top smartphones like Samsung’s £949 Galaxy S21+.

Along with the £1,599 Galaxy Z Fold 3 tablet-phone combination, the Flip 3 is one of Samsung’s third-generation folding-screen products. The Fold 3 is a tablet that folds in half like a makeup compact, while the Flip 3 is a smartphone that folds in half like a makeup compact. Samsung’s latest foldable device, the Flip 3, is an advancement of the company’s previous folding tablet. It’s a little slimmer, shorter, and narrower, with a streamlined hinge, a less flashy outside design, and a more substantial feel.

1. Excellent performance with an average battery life

The Z Flip 3 is equipped with Qualcomm’s latest top CPU, the Snapdragon 888, which is used in the Galaxy S21 series in the United States as well as by competitors such as OnePlus and Xiaomi.

The day-to-day performance is outstanding. The phone feels fast, apps load and run quickly, and gaming performance was comparable to that of top Android competitors. The fingerprint scanner on the side of the phone unlocks the phone much faster than the previous model.

However, the battery life is below average for a smartphone. It lasts more than 25 hours, or a whole day with the screen turned on for around three hours, but the battery only lasts about 25% of the time, so you’ll have to charge it every day. 2. Long-term stability

The battery in the Z Flip 3 isn’t likely to last very long, according to Samsung. For at least 500 complete charge cycles, those in similar devices typically keep at least 80% of their original capacity.

4. Camera

Similar to last year’s model, the dual 12-megapixel camera on the rear has a normal “wide” camera with optical image stabilization and an ultrawide angle camera. Both cameras have been significantly upgraded and are nearly identical to the ones found on the S21+.

In most lighting circumstances, they produce excellent photos and video. The ultra-wide camera’s low-light performance has improved over last year, and while it loses a little detail and sharpness in lower light levels, it remains one of the best.

There is no telephoto camera, so you must rely on digital zoom, which is adequate at 2x and extends to 10x. Shut the phone down and you can use the main cameras to take selfies with the cover screen acting as a viewfinder, which is a little tricky to line up at arm’s length but great for quick snaps. 5. Points to Consider

The top and bottom stereo speakers are both adequate, but the top one is much louder.

Because of the phone’s smooth, flat rear glass, it slips easily off uneven surfaces like a sofa cushion.

Because it is not rubbed clean when placed in a pocket, the screen gathers fingerprints faster than ordinary phones. The call quality was good, and the 5G performance was comparable to that of similar Android competitors.
